The Institute for Conservation is divided into two main areas: book conservation, and picture and photo conservation. The responsibilities for the respective collections or object groups are split among various conservators within these working groups.
After all, the diversity of objects in the holdings of the Austrian National Library require different approaches in terms of conservation, restoration and maintenance, depending on the type and material.
To this end, conservators specialise in certain areas already during their training and continue to do so when performing their professional activity so that they are particularly qualified for their specific material groups or methods with their broad knowledge.
The Augustinian Reading Room will be closed on February 10, 2025. As a substitute, the Reading Room of the Collection of Manuscripts and Old Prints (Josefsplatz 1 in the left wing of the building, Manuscripts Staircase 2nd floor) will be available during regular opening hours.
Thank you for your understanding.
Due to an event, the State Hall will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 27.
