We carry out documentation and research projects or play an advisory role in them.
The web portal on the history of women's movements in Austria presents biographies, profiles of the relevant associations and documents from the Habsburg Monarchy to the end of the First Republic. The individuals and the women's organisations concerned and their activities and topics are presented through the documents relating to them: publications, association documentation, statutes, journals, pictorial material, etc., much of which is held by the Austrian National Library. "Women in Motion" is the virtual compilation of the information on historical women's movements scattered over many places and institutions.
Thank you for understanding that information on this web portal is available in German only.
The online exhibition "Women use your vote!" traces the history of women's suffrage in Austria: from the 1848 revolution to election day on 16 February 1919, using materials from the time held by the Austrian National Library.
The completed project called Cherchez la femme brings together historic, women-specific reference works published before 1918 and held by the Austrian National Library.
The project page can only be accessed on site at the Austrian National Library via Webarchiv Austria. If you are interested, please contact us by email.
Please note the opening hours during the holidays.
The department and the reading room of picture archives and graphics department remain closed on January 22, 2025.
