Brief description

In the cooperation project DiTAH (Digital Transformation in Austrian Humanities) the Austrian National Library, as the most important provider of digitised Austrian cultural heritage, together with members of other well-known Austrian science institutions, is working on specific solutions in the provision of digital data for the humanities. The aim is to create teaching and communication resources from the data stocks created by digitisation and to convey the methods used for this in university teaching and the associated knowledge to the general public.

This interdisciplinary Digital Humanities project collects, processes, and analyses representations of Ottoman “nature” (flora, fauna, landscapes) in a multilingual corpus of 2,000 travelogues, mainly prints in the holdings of the Austrian National Library.

Brief description

The purpose of the ODL (Open Digital Libraries for creative users)-project is to build capacity for using digital library collections creatively. The National Libraries of The Netherlands, Austria and Estonia are all part of multiple European networks and found each other in their shared interest to see the digital age as an opportunity to open up their institutions to creatives and artists. With this project, the partners intend to deliver examples of artistic and creative deployment of library collections. The results will be shared for wider usage in the collective network of libraries on local and international levels.

The project "Bibliotheca Eugeniana Digital" (BED) is a cooperation project between the Austrian National Library and the University of Continuing Education Krems funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences within the framework of the "go!digital 3.0" program. The goal of the Bibliotheca Eugeniana Digital project is a systematic digital reconstruction and visual exploration of Prince Eugene's book collection (UNESCO "Memory of Austria"), one of the most famous collections of the Baroque era, using tools and methods from the Digital Humanities and the Data Sciences.

Brief description
The Austrian National Library and many other cultural heritage institutions are increasingly relying on the IIIF technology to make their data available to the public. The project "Machine Learning Suite for IIIF Resources" creates an environment with which machine learning applications can be developed particularly efficiently around these kind of data sets. Instructions and tutorials, which will be created during the project, will enable the environment to be configured as easily as possible and thus facilitate its use for end users.

Brief description

The project „DH-Infra.at“ is a BMBWF funded, cooperative project in the Austrian digital humanities of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Austrian National Library, TU Wien, University of Applied Arts Vienna, University for Continuing Education Krems and the Universities Graz, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna. Over the course of the project, a powerful, versatile and easily-accessible computational research environment is being developed and deployed. The project aims at providing software, hardware and data all in the same place. In the system, the data reposorities of the ÖNB will be made available. Support in the form of tutorials and individual consultings will enable researchers of varying experience levels to run their own data science analyses.

The European Cloud for Heritage OpEn Science (ECHOES) project aims to establish the Cultural Heritage Cloud (or European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage - ECCCH), a shared platform to provide heritage professionals and researchers with access to data, scientific resources, training, and advanced digital tools tailored to suit their needs.

Funded by the European Commission and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), ECHOES will bring together fragmented communities of the Cultural Heritage field into a new community.

The project will surpass basic digitisation, aiming to spark a transformation in the field through a holistic approach. It will integrate existing knowledge about tangible and intangible heritage artefacts, creating a collaborative digital environment for analysing heritage assets, facts, and phenomena.

In this context, users can develop their interpretations to interact with, explore and enrich Digital Twins, fostering the creation of new, collaboratively developed scientific knowledge. This digital ecosystem will facilitate the creation of a new generation of heritage objects, the Digital Commons, which are semantically rich and collectively produced.

The Cultural heritage Cloud is built on Open Access and Open Science principles, promoting inclusivity and democratising access to knowledge and digital assets for all. Upon completion, ECHOES will provide a unified platform to integrate the outcomes of EU and national projects related to Cultural Heritage.
