Everything about using the literary archive

For your research on writer's materials from prelims and bequests, the Literary Archives of the Austrian National Library are the right place and you are most welcome.

 Ordering objects and viewing
  • The user card of the Austrian National Library also gives you access to the Literary Archives. Please observe its rules of use.
  • Let us know in good time when you are coming and what you would like to see, and we will prepare the materials for you in the reading room. Materials ordered by 3:00 p.m. on a business day will be available as of 9:00 a.m. the following day. Materials ordered after 3:00 p.m. will be available from 1:00 p.m. the following day, or from 9:00 a.m. the day after next during summer opening hours. A maximum of 5 archive boxes per order will be made available. Please use our request for use.
  • If you would like to publish material that has been viewed, please submit a request for permission to publish.
  • Please refer to our information sheet on how to cite the materials used.
  • Please understand that printed materials from the reference library cannot be borrowed off-site.
  • For information about the holdings and research possibilities, please contact the staff of the Information Service in the reading room.
Reproductions
  • If you would like reproductions of estate materials or literature from the reference library, please order scans (conditions).
  • Scanning of archival materials in the reading room is not permitted; photography is only permitted without flash and with permission from authorized archival staff.
  • Loans for exhibitions
  • Are you planning an exhibition? You would like to borrow a gem or a highlight of our collection for it? Then please send your written request for a loan to the head of the archive. Conditions and costs can be found in the loan contract.
