Three perky virtual bookworms experience an adventure in the world-famous library hall, and museum visitors are right in the middle of the action thanks to the latest in technology.
A new experience of the State Hall
Quite literally, Augmented Reality or “enhanced reality” means the combination of images or videos with computer-generated information. The Austrian National Library, like other institutions, makes use of Augmented Reality within the scope of a new guided tour of the State Hall, especially for families (currently the tour is only available in German). For that purpose, participants will be given a tablet enabling them to view the State Hall as if looking through a window. At a total of six locations within the room, they will be shown scenes of a story in that “window”, experienced by the chief characters of the adventure – three meddlesome bookworms – in the State Hall.
Made for the whole family
The project was conceived and implemented together with multimedia artist Kris Hofmann, with support from the “creative_pioneer” funding programme of the Vienna Business Agency. This innovative guided tour is a treat for the whole family: your little ones will experience an exciting story suitable for children, the adults are provided with additional information about the State Hall, getting an idea of this pioneering technology into the bargain.
Costs
The Augmented Reality Tour of the State Hall is available for a total fee of EUR 69.- (duration approx. 45 minutes). This flat fee applies to a group of up to 5 persons; at least one participant must be a child (under 19 years). The guide will be present throughout the guided tour to answer any questions and to provide assistance if required.
