Your Wedding in the Perfect Ambience
Are you looking for an amazing location for the most beautiful day in your life? The Austrian National Library’s various venues in the heart of Vienna offer a wealth of possibilities to turn your wedding day into something really very special and leave a lasting impression.
Whether civil wedding ceremony, agape feast, or wedding banquet, obtain competent advice from the Austrian National Library’s event team. We can help you plan your individual celebration, depending on the size of the wedding party.
Take a look around and be inspired! A civil wedding ceremony surrounded by books in the State Hall or Augustinian Reading Room, followed by an agape reception in the Van Swieten Room and a banquet in the Oratory, or a wedding celebration in the classic and festive bel étage of the Palais Mollard: you will certainly find the perfect framework.
Before you withdraw to have your wedding pictures taken, you can surprise your guests with a tour of one of the Austrian National Library’s museums so that they will be entertained while you smile for the camera.
Your benefits when booking a venue at the Austrian National Library:
• Excellent public transport connections
• Underground parking in the immediate vicinity
• Free choice of catering
• No restrictions as to technical equipment and decoration
• Easily accessible for deliveries
• Cultural diversity for your guests
Tie the knot for eternity
As an additional highlight to mark your special day, you can tie the knot for eternity as a bridal couple through a work conserved at the Austrian National Library by becoming a book sponsor. Together we will select a suitable object from our holdings, such as a special book, a map of the country where you first travelled together, a papyrus or musical autograph reminding you of a particular moment: there are no limits to ideas.
You will receive a certificate of honour confirming your sponsorship, and a personal bookplate with your names will be inserted in the chosen object — for all times. By becoming a book sponsor, you also contribute to the restoration and conservation of more then twelve million objects conserved at the Austrian National Library.
As you make a one-time donation (starting at 1,000 euros for individual research), your sponsorship will last forever. This could probably be put on your wedding list, or you can make a gift to yourselves.
A magnificent marriage proposal
Book a private tour of the State Hall and ask the big question in the ambience of the former court library, amidst some 200,000 books dating from the years 1501 to 1850—and nothing will be in the way of ‘Yes’. Raise your champagne glasses high up on the gallery afterwards and enjoy the experience together.
FAQs for your perfect planning
Depending on their availability, we can offer you our venues for your celebrations on a short-term basis. Don’t hesitate to contact us and ask for your desired date. However, should you also plan to have your civil wedding ceremony at the Austrian National Library, it is important to schedule a date with the municipal authorities beforehand. We would like to inform you that, to our knowledge, civil wedding ceremonies taking place outside public register offices are highly popular. From the first weekday in May, reservations with the register office are possible for the entire calendar year that lies ahead. So you can book a date with the Dream Wedding Office by phone or e-mail more than six months beforehand.
To arrange a date for a civil wedding or partnership ceremony, please contact the municipal authorities:
• MA 63 office ‘Dream Wedding Venues’
• Telephone: +43 1 4000 09570
• E-mail: traumhochzeit@ma63.wien.gv.at
• For further information go to:https://www.wien.gv.at/english/administration/civilstatus/wedding/
Once you have booked a date and location, you can register for a civil wedding or registered partnership ceremony six months in advance at the earliest. Upon registration, the authorities will check whether you and your future spouse/partner meet all necessary legal prerequisites.
We will be happy to send you a list of catering companies that have already worked at our venues (for your information only, no responsibility accepted).
When it comes to music, decoration/furnishings, flowers, technical equipment, and photography, you are free to make your own choice. Please bear in mind that in addition to our rental fees for the venue we will have to add personnel and cleaning costs. In this respect, you are obliged to work with stuff provided by us. Personnel costs refer to the installation and disassembly of our equipment and supervision/security. We are happy to provide you with a first estimate of personnel and cleaning costs as soon as a rough event plan is available.
When booking your wedding event at one of our venues, you will receive two separate invoices: one for rental fees and — if applicable — the guided tour(s) you booked; and a second invoice for personnel and cleaning costs. As soon as a rough event plan is available, we are happy to provide you with a cost estimate for personnel and cleaning. You will be charged for these outsourced services by an external company. Additional services like catering, etc. can be arranged at your own discretion, and you will have to pay for them directly.
Equipment supplied by us for the Josefsplatz venues free of charge (included in the rental fee) comprises chairs, a stage, high tables, a speaker’s desk, tables for preparing and serving food, coatracks, signage, A0 stand, screens, and occasional tables. In the Augustinian Reading Room, additional dinner tables are available.
At the Palais Mollard, the following equipment can be made available free of charge (included in the rental fee): chairs, high tables, a speaker’s desk, tables for preparing and serving food, coatracks, signage, and screens.
Depending on the programme (only agape reception or also dinner and ceremony), our venues offer ample room for many guests. We are happy to discuss your plans and ideas on the telephone and inform you about the respective capacities. Here is a first overview:
