Research facility of global renown
With 180,000 objects, the Department of Papyri of the Austrian National Library is one of the largest and most important collections of ancient manuscripts in the world. It holds texts written on papyrus and other writing material of former times such as parchment, ostraca, leather and wood panels. Due to an employees meeting the Reading Rooms at Heldenplatz and the collections do not open before 11.30 a.m. on December 19. For the State Hall as well as the museums the regular opening hours are valid.
The reading rooms at Heldenplatz and the collections are closed on public holidays so as on December 8, December 24, December 25, December 26 and December 31, 2022; January 1 and January 6, 2023.
