Research facility of global renown
With 180,000 objects, the Department of Papyri of the Austrian National Library is one of the largest and most important collections of ancient manuscripts in the world. It holds texts written on papyrus and other writing material of former times such as parchment, ostraca, leather and wood panels. Reading rooms, Collections and Museums
Masks are no longer required in all indoor spaces. There is also no need for a 2G certificate.
Opening hours public holidays
The reading rooms at Heldenplatz and the collections are closed on Sunday 5 June and Monday 6 June (Pentecoste) and Thursday 16 June (Corpus Christi).
In the museums the regular opening hours are valid.
