Modern knowledge center
The site at Heldenplatz is the central service facility of the Austrian National Library. With seven reading rooms and over 400 individual places to read in a stimulating atmosphere, it provides the perfect place for students, researchers and interested individuals.
Here you can find printed material published from 1851. Furthermore, by buying a day ticket or annual membership card, you have complete access to our wide range of library services, to the Internet and to subscribed databases, as well as electronic magazines.
Whether researching for a hobby or scientific work, enjoy exclusive access to hundreds of years of knowledge in addition to a comprehensive range of modern-day literature. Our librarians will be happy to advise and provide support with scientific » research.
The reading rooms at Heldenplatz and the collections are closed on Thursday 26 May (Ascension Day), Sunday 5 June and Monday 6 June (Pentecoste) and Thursday 16 June (Corpus Christi).
In the museums the regular opening hours are valid.
Due to an employees meeting the Library at Heldenplatz and the collections do not open before 11.30 a.m. on May 19. For the State Hall as well as the museums the regular opening hours are valid.
Masks are no longer required in all indoor spaces. There is also no need for a 2G certificate.
A modern training centre for all interested parties is being built in the library basement on Heldenplatz. At the same time, the entire public area in the basement is being completely renovated. Until probably September 2022, the basement will be closed due to the construction work. Library operations will continue uninterrupted.
Please note the following changes during the construction period:
- Large-format works will be issued at the book issue desk on the ground floor.
- Microforms can be used in the research zone on the ground floor, as can PCs and printouts from the web archive.
- The large format scanner is located in the copy corner.
