Object 2: Friederike Mayröcker: FOR ERNST on 21.4.70
Manuscript, 1970

A close friendship and intimate love affair shaped the lives and writings of Friederike Mayröcker (1924-2021) and Ernst Jandl (1925-2000). Mayröcker called her fellow poet, with whom she spent over 40 years, her “hand and heart mate”. Many of her poems, incomparable reflections on love as well as transience and longing, are dedicated to Jandl. However, Mayröcker did more than merely describe her relationship with him. Jandl's extensive estate also contains an illustrated story. Under the title "FÜR ERNST am 21.4.70" Mayröcker drew the course of a day she spent without her beloved. The love story extends into everyday life, and the page turns it into poetry.
