Library and Collections

According to the current Covid-19 restrictions of the city of Vienna, an FFP2 mask has to be worn in the entire public area, including at the reading area.

State Hall and museums

The museums and the State Hall are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Thursdays the museums are open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. All visitors must wear an FFP2 mask in all museum areas.

Closure of the library basement

A modern training centre for all interested parties is being built in the library basement on Heldenplatz. At the same time, the entire public area in the basement is being completely renovated. From 1 September 2021 until probably September 2022, the basement will be closed due to the construction work. Library operations will continue uninterrupted.

Please note the following changes during the construction period:

Large-format works will be issued at the book issue desk on the ground floor.
Microforms can be used in the research zone on the ground floor, as can PCs and printouts from the web archive.
The large format scanner is located in the copy corner.
