The Department of Planned Languages of the Austrian National Library is home to the world’s largest specialist library for interlinguistics, documenting around 500 planned languages. In addition to Esperanto, the most important planned language in the world today, these also include Volapük, Ido, Interlingua and many others. In the department’s reading room, discover a whole host of books and magazines in planned languages, multifaceted archives and impressive musical recordings and films.
The opening times at Heldenplatz are from Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 9 pm. The collections are open as usual (» summer opening times from July 1 until September 30). In all areas, visitors are required to wear a face mask, also at the reading desk.
Trainings on site can take place again. An overview of current dates (trainings on site and webinars) can be found on the » website. We are happy to offer further individually agreed appointments, including online-training courses on pre-academic work for schoolchildren, more information at information@onb.ac.at.
Please note that the Library at Heldenplatz and our collections are closed from Sunday 25 July until Thursday 5 August 2021. For the State Hall and our museums the usual opening hours apply.
