Preservation at the Institute for Restoration

The Institute for Restoration is divided into two main areas: book restoration, and picture and photo restoration. The responsibilities for the respective collections or object groups are split among various restorers within these working groups.

After all, the diverse of objects in the holdings of the Austrian National Library require different approaches in terms of preservation, restoration and maintenance, depending on the type and material.

To this end, restorers specialise in certain areas already during their training and continue to do so when performing their professional activity so that they are particularly qualified for their specific material groups or methods with their broad knowledge.
