Use
You can obtain a library card from the age of 15 onwards. All you need to register with and use the library is a valid photo ID.

Obligation to use the cloakroom
The cloakroom must be used in all facilities. Please deposit all items brought with you (coats, jackets, bags, laptop bags, backpacks, umbrellas, etc.) in one of the lockers. If you wish to take personal valuables (wallet, keys, etc.) with you into the facility, you may obtain a plastic bag on loan in the cloakroom. Alternatively, you can purchase such a bag for EUR 3.00 at the service desk.

Library cards
Choose between a day ticket or an annual membership card. You can obtain this online via our » ticket shop or directly at the service desk.

Extension
You can extend your annual membership card via the » ticket shop or at the service desk. You will receive an e-mail reminder 28 days before your annual card expires. For technical reasons, the one-year term of the extended annual card always begins on the date of the extension. In order to avoid losing valid days, it is advisable to extend the card as close to the actual date of expiration as possible.

Access credentials
You can use all electronic offers of the Austrian National Library free of charge after logging on with your user ID and password. You receive these access credentials when purchasing your library card.

Password forgotten
If you have forgotten your password, you can request a new one via the user administration link in the » ticket shop.

Barrier-free access
For barrier-free access to the library, please use the entrance at the middle gate of the new Hofburg [Mitteltor der Neuen Hofburg] (use the left ramp, right gate wing can be opened using a euro key or registration via the intercom). Parking spaces for people with limited mobility are available in the short-stay parking area at Heldenplatz.
