Explore the History of Financial News
In her project, Monika Kovarova-Simecek explores the cultural history of financial news in Vienna from the stock market’s establishment in 1771 until its temporary closure in 1914. Using the digitized historical newspapers of ANNO (Austrian Newspapers Online) and Plotly, she examines which newspapers reported on 'Börse' (Viennese Stock Exchange), who they tried to reach, and how the amount and the intensity of financial news changed over time.
To visualize the data set of 1,685,441 hits spread throughout 226,997 issues of 174 newspapers titles, we created interactive graphs which help identify broad patterns providing orientation for deeper research.
