The special exhibit

In 2019 the Austrian National Library presents six "special exhibits" from their rich holdings, which for reasons of conservation can be exhibited only rarely in public. These fascinating objects are displayed in our State Hall.

Glockendon’s opulent prayer book

In the Middle Ages, prayer books were seen as “luxury goods”. They were meant for the private devotions of usually high-ranking individuals, were sumptuously bound and ornamented by the most important illuminators of the time. One of the most important illuminators was Albrecht Glockendon from Nuremberg.
