Artists' books and collectable editions from 1850 onwards

This is a collection of hand-pressed prints, artistically designed, bound and printed books which have been autographed and produced with outstanding typography, together with books for painters in which text and illustration by artists of the 20th/21st centuries create a new work of art by combining text and image.

Based on a list of criteria drawn up by the department, the holdings are still being added to by carefully selected acquisitions mainly of the works of Austrian and international book artists, in order to portray and document the development and versatility of the artists through their works – in accordance with our public mandate.
