Travelogues: Perceptions of the Other 1500–1876 – A Computerized Analysis
Brief description
The project “Travelogues” focuses on German language travelogues in the collections of the Austrian National Library, covering the period from 1500 to 1876. Researchers and scientists from the fields of history and computer science, as well as library and information science are jointly developing algorithms for the semi-automatized detection and evaluation of the perceptions of the other in a large-scale text corpus. As a result, German language travelogues are systematically collected and qualitatively analysed for the first time. The Austrian National Library provides ground data, such as digitized texts, OCR results and metadata and the expertise on information retrieval.
