Research facility of global renown
With 180,000 objects, the Department of Papyri of the Austrian National Library is one of the largest and most important collections of ancient manuscripts in the world. It holds texts written on papyrus and other writing material of former times such as parchment, ostraca, leather and wood panels. On Wednesday, 4 July, there will be a barricade by the police between 7 a.m. and estimated 12 o’clock in the area between Heldenplatz, Innerer Burghof, Ballhausplatz and Minoritenplatz. Reading room visitors with an authorised photo ID and the ANL annual card will be able to access the libray. If the access for readers without an annual card and for visitors of the Papyrus Musuem will be possible, is subject to the Viennese police. Thank you for your understanding.
