Guided tours and events


We offer a wide range of guided tours and teaching formats for different audiences and age groups. See the parts of the permanent exhibition and special exhibitions that interest you, and experience the Literature Museum in different ways.

Children and families

  • Guided tours for children and families
    Duration: 45 minutes
    Age: 9 to 12, accompanied by an adult

    Read short stories and poems together and think some up for yourself. It's fun to play with language!

    Costs:
    Children and young people up to the age of 19 are admitted free of charge to all parts of the museum. Guided tour per child (for 10 or more persons) EUR 2.00;
    Accompanying persons or adults (for 10 or more persons) EUR 8.50.
    For children's tours in the context of WienXtra/kinderaktiv programme/Wiener Ferienspiel: children (6 to 13) free admission; adults EUR 4.00

Schools

  • Guided tours for schools
    Duration: 45 minutes

    From grade 7, we offer guided tours for school groups to show pupils the highlights of our permanent exhibition. They will gain an insight into the many varied literary forms of expression. They will experience literature in different media, from manuscripts and books to audio plays, music and film. They will be inspired to think about the objects and their stories and will learn that literature can be fun.

    Costs:
    Children and young people up to the age of 19 are admitted free of charge to all parts of the museum.
    Guided tour per pupil (for 10 or more persons): EUR 2.00.
    Free admission for teachers.

  • Writing Workshop for schools
    Duration: 90 minutes

    Get creative with your schoolmates! Pupils from grade 7 upwards have the chance to try their hand as authors in a Writing Workshop. To set the mood, they will first be given an overview tour of the permanent exhibition. We invite the pupils to experiment with language and engage with the stories that the texts and objects in our museum have to tell. And, by writing their own pieces, they can become part of the museum themselves.

    Costs:
    Children and young people up to the age of 19 are admitted free of charge to all parts of the museum.

  • “Word Worlds” make children interested in literature and reading
    Duration: 50 minutes

    Word Worlds aims at making pupils enthusiastic about literature, stirring an interest in the written word and teaching them literary skills. We offer 50-minute guided tours on six different themes for school classes from grade 7 upwards. The content and teaching methods are always adapted to suit the lives and interests of the young people. There is a new educational offering for primary schools – “Crafting Language in the Literature Museum” from grade 3 already.

    Costs: Children and young people up to the age of 19 are admitted free of charge to all parts of the museum.

Adults

  • Guided tours for adults
    Duration: 45 minutes

    Be guided through the range and diversity of Austrian literature from the end of the 18th century until the present day. At the Literature Museum, original manuscripts, letters, rare books and countless audio, film and interactive displays offer an exciting route into the world of writing.

    Cost for groups of 10 or more persons:
    Adults: Admission price plus EUR 4.00 per person for the guided tour
    Students under 27: Discounted admission price plus EUR 2.00 per person for the guided tour
    Young people under 19: free admission, EUR 2.00 per person for the guided tour.
