Using the content provided on Austrian National Library websites:
The Austrian National Library provides content and digital copies of its collections online on its websites. The Austrian National Library asserts no own proprietary exploitation rights to said content. Accordingly, it explicitly consents to the subsequent use of this content in the available web resolution. The same applies to the use of this content in Internet forums, blogs and social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.. Notwithstanding the above, any existing third-party rights to the content have to be clarified individually by the user before any subsequent use.
For scans prepared by cooperation partner Google, this approval of subsequent use shall be valid subject to the restriction that the scans may only be used for non-commercial purposes. For enquiries about the commercial use of reproductions of these collections, please refer to our » reproduction service.
If you use our content, we ask that you include picture credits (title, date and other available specifications) and the source citation (permalink from [portal] and the reference “[portal]/Austrian National Library”). For posts on Facebook or Instagram, we ask that you provide the link to the relevant account of the Austrian National Library.

Data protection:
The protection of your data is very important to us. The personal data acquired in the course of using our website or our mobile app is processed within the scope of existing data protection regulations, in particular the Data Protection Act (DSG 2000) as well as the Telecommunication Act (TKG 2003).
Below is explained which data is collected and processed for which purpose.
IP addresses
Your IP (internet protocol) address is submitted every time you connect to our website or to our mobile app. It is required for the server to know where to send its replies to.
In Case of a connection to our website all IP addresses and the associated enquiries are logged by us in order to be able to investigate attacks on our website if required. Moreover, all access operations are analysed for statistical purposes. These logs are deleted after four weeks at the latest.
The following details are recorded:
- IP address
- Date and time of enquiry
- Internet browser and operating system used
- Access method
- URL requested
- Page from which the file was requested
- Access status (file transferred, file not found, etc.)
- Data volume transferred
Session cookies
In order enable you to use our Internet services, we use so-called session cookies that are stored in the memory of your computer. A randomly generated identification number (session ID) is stored in a session cookie. It also contains details about its origin and storage period. However, session cookies cannot store any other data.
Session cookies are required by our server so as to make a distinction between the enquiries of various visitors. Blocking these cookies may result in some functions of our website not working properly.
Session cookies do not enable us to see data on your computer. Moreover, they are automatically deleted at the end of your session, i.e. after closing of the browser window.
Persistent cookies
Persistent (permanent) cookies are not deleted after closing your browser bur remain on your computer. These cookies cannot be used either to read data on your computer.
A persistent cookie is used by our website to restore the settings you made once (e.g. regarding your screen display) next time you return. We do not use this cookie for analysing or tracking purposes.
Other persistent cookies are used by various other providers (exlibrisgroup.com, wikipedia.org, google.com, obvsg.at) if you make use of their additional services also offered on our websites. We have no influence over these providers and do not use these cookies for our own ends.
Using cookies
All cookies are accepted by every Internet browser by default. However, you can instruct your browser not to accept any cookies or to automatically delete them after every Internet session. There is also additional software for various browsers (plug ins) via which the use of cookies can be managed. Analyses
We use data from registrations and enquiries to better tailor our content and websites to the needs of our visitors. The data are summarised and anonymised by means of statistical methods.
No individual user profiles are created or personal data forwarded to third parties.
Our mobile app integrates a 3rd party library named Crashlytics, which registers and evaluates crashes. For this purpose, specific technical information about the device used and the operating system will be transferred to Crashlytics Inc. The data in question does not allow personal identification and will not be stored by us. The evaluations carried out by Crashlytics enable us to analyse technical errors and make our app available to users while minimising errors or crashes.
