Brief description
The challenges posed by the digital long-term archiving of information and data were discussed with 30 partners in the APARSEN project. The aim of the project was to develop solutions for technical processes and for legal and economic questions concerning long-term archiving, and to raise awareness for this important topic.
DM2E – Digitised Manuscripts to Europeana

Brief description
19 million pages of manuscripts were added to Europeana in DM2E. Work was performed on an automated process to be able to convert source meta data formats of different institutions to the Europeana meta data format. Furthermore, a test scenario was developed to demonstrate the added value of semantic data for science.

Brief description
The primary focus of Europeana Creative was on the reuse of cultural heritage content found on Europeana, as well as its meta data on the part of the creative industry sector. In the course of the Europeana 1914-1918 project, over 425,000 particularly relevant and sometimes fragile objects were compiled in the European Digital Library Europeana from ten national libraries and other partners from eight different countries that were on different sides of the historical conflict.

Brief description
The focus of the SCAPE project was on scalable measures for long-term archiving, i.e. data processing methods such as text processing, image data analysis or format migration that can be applied to very large data volumes. The scalability was implemented in SCAPE with the support of cloud-based technologies based on Apache Hadoop, a framework to process large data volumes in a dispersed cluster.
