Research facility of global renown
With 180,000 objects, the Department of Papyri of the Austrian National Library is one of the largest and most important collections of ancient manuscripts in the world. It holds texts written on papyrus and other writing material of former times such as parchment, ostraca, leather and wood panels. Opening hours 7 and 8 December
Due to an event the State Hall and the Papyri Museum as well as all our facilities at Josefplatz and Heldenplatz stay closed on the 7 and 8 December 2017. For all the other museums and facilities the regular opening hours are valid.
