Digital Library - Departments

The main section "Digital Library” is divided into the following sections:

Department Digital Services

The Department Digital Services is responsible for carrying out the digitisation program of the Austrian National Library, which includes initiatives of large-scale digitisation and digital reproduction services.

Department Long Term Preservation

The Department Long Term Preservation is in charge of the building up of a collection of “born digital” resources. Apart from that the section is responsible for administering the digital repository, implementing the web archiving, and planning the strategies for long-term archiving.

Department Research and Development

The task of the Department Research and Development is to carry out research into substructures and related issues in the area of the Digital Library. Prototype solutions are developed and pilot studies are carried out which aim to achieve the basis for redeveloping or optimising the services and processes in the regular functioning of the Austrian National Library. The Department Research and Development works together internationally with several institutions and projects, and is a partner in many European projects of research.

Department Library Systems

The Deparment Library Systems is in charge of administering the library system ALEPH 500 and the various online catalogues of the Austrian National Library. The department offers, apart from know how on ALEPH, support to library staff members, principally in the carrying out of projects.
