International Coronelli Society for the Study of Globes

Vincenzo Coronelli: terrestrial globe (Hall of State, ANL)

The International Coronelli Society for the Study of Globes is a non-profit association which concerns itself with the globe as a special cartographic expression, and with the history of globes and their place in a socio-cultural context.

The society has as members scientists, collectors, museum curators, conservators and dealers, but also many institutions that own globes, and libraries. Founded in Vienna in 1952, it is one of the oldest societies devoted to the history of  cartography

The International Coronelli Society has to date staged twelve scientific symposia. It has for more than fifty years been publishing the only scholarly periodical on the study of globes with the title „Der Globusfreund“ (since 2000 there has also been an English version entitled “Globe Studies”).
