Conditions for use

The use of the Austrian National Library is governed by the Library regulations. Access to the facilities is open to all persons who have completed their 15^th year.

Library card

Using the Library is permitted only with a library card (annual membership card or day ticket) and a valid ID with photo.

Annual membership card / EUR 10.00
Annual membership cards are available online at the Ticket-Shop as well as at the service desks at Heldenplatz (Mon to Fri, 9am – 8.30pm), Palais Mollard and Josefsplatz (Tues to Fri, 10am – 6pm). They can be renewed from 2nd January 2013 either online at the Ticket-Shop or at the specified service desks. You will receive an e-mail reminder 28 days before your annual card expires. This gives you the opportunity to apply for a renewal in good time. 

The annual membership card also authorizes people resident in Austria to access from outside several of the Austrian National Library’s subscribed databases and electronic journals (see Database Infosystem  and Electronic Journal Library). For people with an annual membership card we offer further more the possibility of an online interlibrary loan order.

Day ticket / EUR 3.00
One-day tickets are available online at the Ticket-Shop as well as at the Heldenplatz, Josefsplatz and Palais Mollard service desks.

Cloakroom

Please deposit your coats (overcoat, jacket, bags, laptop bags, backpacks, umbrellas, etc.) at the cloakroom before entering the facilities, and have them placed in a lockable locker (a 2-euro coin is necessary, but it will be returned). If you wish to take personal valuables (wallet, keys, etc.) with you into the facility, you will receive on loan a plastic bag.
