Preventive conservation

Preventive conservation means precautionary measures taken to preserve for the long term the original holdings of a Department. The main aim is to avoid damage and to make conservation treatments unnecessary.

Creation of suitable climatic conditions in the storage areas, storing in acid-free archival materials, and the correct placement and regular cleaning of the objects are the requirements for a maximum lifespan of books, archival items, prints, and photographs.
